How Hard is the Tour?

The Tour du Mont Blanc can be somewhat difficult if you are not a regular hiker that specializes in trekking long distances -- essentially, most people. It involves walking for between 5 hours to 7 hours (give or take) a day.

How Hard Does The Tour du Mont Blanc Look?

  • 165 km distance on foot
  • Up to eleven days of trekking/hiking
  • Up to 10 km ascent/descent of high altitudes passing through Switzerland, France and Italy
  • Some unfavourable weather conditions — usually scorching sun and hot, rainfall, storms or snow.

How Hard is the Tour du Mont Blanc really?

For the hardest part of the Tour du Mont Blanc, some trekkers choose the 21km trek from Les Contamines to Les Chapieux, which involves a total ascent of 1,430m to cross the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme at 2,479m. Meanwhile others believe the Fenettre D’Arpette pass which lies at 2,665m from Champex to Col De la Forclaz is a particularly hard part of the Tour du Mont Blanc.

The weather, which is unpredictable –sunny, snowy or heavy rainfall — can also be a challenge.

This, however, has been made easy by our accommodations and mountain refuges along the route, with delicious meals and spas to soothe your aching muscles and prep you for the next day’s trekking.

Large Number of People

With over 10,000 hikers each year, there is the possibility of clashing with fellow trekkers coming in the opposite direction, due to the fact that it is a circular trip. Some narrow areas can get congested.

Also, with the large number of people, accommodation can be a challenge (of course there are many huts and refuges along the way). If you are the type that doesn’t like shacking up with a lot of people or eating just about anything, your best bet is checking out our packages to enjoy an exquisite lifestyle while adventuring.

With our fully thought out all-inclusive packages you can be sure you will experience a hassle-free hiking tour.
